Description

Designed by acclaimed Japanese designer Makoto Koizumi for Tetu, the Tetu Cast Iron Kyusu brings a quiet, contemporary sensibility to one of Japan’s most enduring tea traditions.

Crafted from Nambu cast iron in Iwate Prefecture, Japan, the teapot has a substantial presence and beautifully textured black surface, contrasted by a smooth, round walnut lid. Its compact architectural silhouette bridges traditional Japanese ironware and modern minimalist design.

Thoughtful details make the piece as functional as it is beautiful. A removable stainless-steel tea strainer allows loose-leaf tea to brew directly inside the pot, while the carefully shaped spout provides greater control and precision when pouring. The cast-iron handle folds down for easier storage and a cleaner profile when not in use.

The approximately 4 mm-thick cast-iron body is produced using a sand-casting process. The interior is enamel coated, while the iron also undergoes a traditional kanake-dome oxidation treatment to help protect against rust.

Winner of a Good Design Award, this is a piece designed not simply for serving tea, but for becoming part of the daily tea ritual.
